The opposition Rahbar Committee nominated Hasil Bizenjo of the National Party on Thursday as his candidate for the office of President of the Senate.
This was announced by the coordinator of the opposition panel after a meeting to finalize the joint candidate for the first place.
All parties will vote for Bizenjo, said Akram Durrani.
Nine opposition parties have appointed the Balochistan senator to replace incumbent Sadiq Sanjrani. It was also decided that Saleem Mandviwala, of the Pakistan People’s Party, would continue as vice president of the Senate.
Previously, the head of PML-N, Nawaz Sharif, approved the name of Hasil Bizenjo as president of the Senate.
Being the majority party in the upper house, the PML-N had the opportunity to decide who would be the candidate.
Nawaz Sharif, who is currently incarcerated in the Kot Lakhpat prison, gave his consent to the name of Bizenjo so that this coveted post can be held with someone from Balochistan.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sanjrani faces a motion of distrust of the opposition.
